Meet Katie Rackley – Creative Director & Owner of SJ Lingerie

We love to get up close and personal at SJ, therefore we would like you to meet Katie Rackley, the beauty and brains (aka. the owner & Creative Director) behind the brand of SJ Lingerie.

Tell us a little bit about your background where are you from and what were you doing before the launch of SJ Lingerie?
I have been in fashion and creative industries all my life but I find it hard to explain what I have done without it almost sounding laughable as I have done so many different things. I have a degree in psychology but I have also studied fashion design and illustration, interior design, floristry and art gilding. My working shortlist includes working as a stylist, a visual merchandiser, a picture framer, an art gilder and most recently a mother. My son is now a year and a half old and it has been a perfect time to start a new venture.

When did you fall in love with lingerie?
For as long as I can remember I have loved getting brand new socks and underwear as gifts from my mother. Some things never change. I still love the feeling of slipping my toes into a new pair of socks, it’s such a great luxury. Same with Lingerie. Even though nobody sees it, you know what youre wearing underneath and it makes you so much more confident.

Where do you seek out your inspirations from?
I’m constantly visiting art galleries. I think that is where much of my inspiration comes from. I don’t know much about art but I do know after visiting a gallery I feel refreshed and I have a new sense of what matters to me. I also love high fashion and comfortable clothing so I want to design lingerie that really works as a second skin.

Why do you think that modern women should have beautiful and luxurious pieces of lingerie as their wardrobe staple?
Lingerie isn’t always about impressing others. It’s about making yourself as a woman feel beautiful. When a woman feels beautiful she can be seductive and powerful in her own right.

What is the one piece every woman should have tucked away in her lingerie drawer?
I think bodysuits are highly underrated. I think every woman should own one as you can wear it under sheer blouses and skinny pants or a skirt and not have to think about matching your knickers to your bra. They also cover all the bad bits so they are extremely flattering!

If you were stranded on a desert island, and could only take five things with you, what would they be?
The internet, Marvis Jasmine toothpaste, a fishing rod, matches and a wide brimmed hat for sun protection
